Branxton Preschool ESTD. 1987

Branxton Preschool is a not for profit community based preschool providing education and care for children aged between 3-6 years. The Preschool is set on Wonnarua land in the heart of our community. We have a long established history within our community and place a value on building a sense of community connection amongst the children, families, and educators. We recognise our cultural connection to our local community, and we welcome families from all cultures and respect the important role they play in their child’s first education.

Our Purpose Statement

Your children...... will actively engage in play! This will stimulate a sense of wellbeing, allow a freedom to express their own personalities and uniqueness, assist in developing relationships, enable connections to be made and enhance curiosity and creativity. Play enables children to develop a positive attitude to learning.

Their future....... will include an approach to pedagogy that provides young children with opportunities to maximise their potential and develop a foundation for future success in learning. As a team, we will advocate for their rights under the “United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child” and the Early Childhood sector as a whole.

Our educational journey at Branxton Preschool is one that we collaboratively share hand-in-hand with our children and families.

Our community..... plays a significant role in your child’s early years of learning. The creation of strong, trusting and long-lasting connections with our families and our community, allow for a flow of learning and the sharing of valuable resources and knowledge. We encourage and recognise the contribution our children make not only to their community, but their world.

Preschool Philosophy, Vision and Values

We believe in acknowledging the traditional custodians of this land, the Wonnarua People and all Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander people within our community. Our philosophy is reflected through meaningful practices and everyday documentation. Expand the below titles for more.

EXPLORE

The learning
environment

The learning environment has been carefully planned and landscaped to invite children into learning play spaces, that allow them to explore, engage and plan self-directed play. Our indoor open planned spaces allow the children to feel at home with furnishings that would be seen in their home environment. The play spaces allow the children to be creative, innovative and extend onto their existing knowledge and skills. Our outdoor environment enables the children to experience all that nature has to offer. We have incorporated the surrounding landscape and vegetation to bring nature to children's daily outdoor play and learning environment. A natural creek bed, loose parts, sandpit, mud kitchen, STEAM station, edible garden are just a few of our beautiful invitations to play in our outdoor setting.

Our Child Safety Statement

At Branxton Preschool child safety is paramount. Every decision made takes a child’s interests, rights, well-being and safety into consideration. We believe every child has the right to be safe and feel safe. We want our children to be happy and empowered in our environment. We will always support and respect our children to have a safe sense of belonging.

To keep children safe, we commit to:

  • Providing a learning environment that is both child friendly and child safe, where children can actively participate in decisions that affect their life.

  • Promoting cultural safety for First Nations children and those with diverse backgrounds.

  • Implementing the ten child safe standards and principles.

  • Making sure that children are not exposed to any form of harmful conduct or abuse.

  • Making sure children know who to approach if they feel unsafe or have any child safety concerns.

As a child safe organisation, we commit to:

  • Educating everyone within our preschool about what it means to be child safe, so we can prevent, detect and effectively respond to child abuse. This means appropriately responding to complaints, allegations, disclosures and reporting procedures.

  • Following and complying with our child safe code of conduct.

  • Welcoming feedback to continuously improve our child safe practices, policies and procedures.

  • Educating families and community members that interact with our preschool on our child safe standards and ensuring their behaviour aligns with our safe practices.

  • Ongoing professional development that enhances our knowledge of child safe practices.

  • Providing the best, quality care that empowers children to contribute to a safe, welcoming environment where they all have a strong sense of belonging.

  • Implementing recruitment and induction processes that allow all staff to understand their role as a mandatory reporter, where they have the knowledge, skills and confidence to speak up. “If you see it, say it”.
