Clay Works

During Term Two, we had Cristie from Hunter Valley Ceramics Studio come in and spend some time with our children. As a Preschool we are extremely fortunate to have many talented parents here, and Cristie is one of them.

Art in Early Childhood Education contributes to how children understand creativity and helps them to develop their own sense of identity. We encourage children to try a variety of mediums including music, dramatic play, and visual arts. Cristie has a wealth of knowledge in various mediums, with a passion for ceramics. She spent two days and many hours here sharing this love with our children. She brought in Pottery Wheels and the children were taught how to operate these and manipulate the clay. Those children who were interested in this form of art were then given the opportunity to create their very own piece of pottery!

Countless hours were spent at home by Cristie preparing, drying, glazing, and firing these beautiful pieces of art and we’re sure that you’ll agree.... they look AMAZING!

Cristie will be back later in Term Three to share this experience once again with the children. This will also allow those children who chose not to participate initially, or were absent on those days, the opportunity to test out their creativity. We are super excited to have Cristie come and visit us again.
